I Want to Completely Redo My Smile. Who in Naples Does That Kind of Full-Mouth Makeover?

If you’re talking about changing your entire smile, not just putting veneers on a couple of front teeth, you’re really talking about full-mouth reconstruction or what I often think of as a total smile rejuvenation.

That can mean very different things depending on what’s going on with your teeth.

Some patients have worn their teeth down over the years. Others have old crowns, fillings, missing teeth, broken teeth, bite problems, or a combination of all of those things. Sometimes a patient has been fixing one tooth at a time for years and eventually gets to the point where they say, “I’m ready to just fix this properly.”

That’s a different kind of case than someone who wants six veneers because they don’t like the shape of their front teeth.

With a full-mouth case, I’m looking at the entire system. Your teeth, your bite, how much tooth structure is left, which teeth are healthy enough to keep, where implants might make sense, and what we need to do to make the final smile work together.

For some people, that might involve crowns or veneers on a number of teeth.

For somebody else, we may be able to save some teeth and replace others with implants.

And if the teeth are failing badly enough, we may talk about a full-arch implant solution such as All-on-X, where an entire upper or lower set of teeth is supported by dental implants.

There isn’t one treatment that I automatically recommend for somebody who says, “I want a new smile.”

The first thing I want to know is what you actually have to work with.

Can you really rebuild an entire smile?

Yes.

But the important part is figuring out how to rebuild it.

If you still have healthy teeth with a good long-term prognosis, I generally want to understand whether those teeth can be part of the final result. If certain teeth are badly compromised, keeping them simply because they’re still there may not make sense either.

That’s where the planning matters.

A patient may come in thinking they need every tooth removed and implants placed. After looking at everything, we might find that a number of those teeth are worth saving.

Another patient may come in hoping we can put crowns over everything, but the underlying teeth may not be strong enough to make that a predictable long-term solution.

Those are very different cases even though both patients might describe what they want the same way: “I want my whole smile fixed.”

What does a full-mouth makeover usually involve?

There’s no standard package.

Depending on the person, treatment can include things like crowns, veneers, implants, bridges, replacing missing teeth, changing the bite, or rebuilding teeth that have been severely worn down.

Sometimes we're working mostly with natural teeth. Sometimes implants are a major part of the treatment. Sometimes it's a combination.

The cosmetic side obviously matters. You want the teeth to look good.

But if we’re rebuilding an entire mouth, I’m also thinking about how those teeth come together when you bite and chew. A beautiful result that doesn’t function correctly isn’t a very good result.

What should I look for in a dentist for this?

If you’re considering this kind of treatment in Naples, I would look for a dentist who actually plans and treats comprehensive cases, not someone who only looks at the individual tooth that happens to be bothering you that day.

Ask to see cases.

Ask how the dentist decides which teeth to save and which teeth to replace.

If implants are part of the conversation, ask what the alternatives are and why one approach is being recommended over another.

Most importantly, you should understand the plan before you start.

A full-mouth reconstruction can involve a lot of dentistry. You deserve to know what we're doing, why we're doing it, and what the finished result is supposed to accomplish.
